Counting in Mandarin

Every second week in Room 13 we have been learning the Mandarin language. Our Mandarin teacher is Rebecca (Yu Ting) she teaches mandarin in all the Senior Syndicate classes. We also played a game by counting up to 5 and hiding an object, if they got closer to the object we shouted louder and when they got further away we went quieter. She taught us how to do hand actions to count to 10 as well.

KVC SPORTS DAY
On Tuesday the 8th of March, the Year 6`s went to the KVC sports day. We went in two groups, Group 1 was RM 12 & RM 13, Group 2 was RM 2 & RM 3 + Adam & Corey. Group activities were kiwi tag, softball, hockey, lacrosse, athletics, orienteering, petanque, and football. Group 2 did football first and then kiwi league tag, softball, hockey, lacrosse, athletics, orienteering and petanque. My (Adam) favourite sport was athletics because we got to do an obstacle course with hurdles, and a step ladder. After the obstacle course we did a mini pole vault. My (Luke) favourite sport was football because it made me get into football. Altogether it was a magnificent day!!! :D

Flag Referendum

Last week the year fives and sixes did a flag referendum. What we did was we had a post box and we had a scrutineer,  a counter and a  returning officer.  What the scrutineer does is all the checking and making sure the counter does not cheat. The Returning Officer  gave all the voting slips out and  the counter does all the counting. The end results are in and it was 49 for the current flag and the 40 for new one. So the new one was out voted.

The Match

I felt my heart beating as I walked onto the pitch.  It was a sunny summer’s day and I was with my team. I looked over my shoulder to see my family’s smiling faces.  Joe scored the first goal. Tim had made 2 great saves. But while we were celebrating the opposition scored. That made the score 1-1 with 2 minutes to go.
I retrieved the ball from a through pass. Racing down the field, time ticking away. I drew back my foot to shoot and just as I was bringing my foot down, a small coin fell onto by boot. I stared at it. Ten seconds to go. I couldn’t shoot with my good foot with the coin on it but I couldn’t not shoot. I lined up my foot and kicked. The little coin went flying and landed on the face of the goalie. A few moments later the ball flew into the net. “GOAL!” my team screamed.
It had been  a good day we were playing a match at half time at Forsyth Barr Stadium at the Southern United Game. I never knew so much could happen at half of a soccer match. I enjoyed playing that match at half time. It was an excellent experience.

The Race

The Race
It was an AWESOME day in Queenstown and this is why.
It was a really sunny day and me and my family were going to go on the luge. In no time we were on the gondola going up and in the middle of the ride it stopped. For some reason, and since we were moving quite fast when it stopped, it swayed back and forth. IT WAS FREAKY!. But soon it started again YAY!. Finally I’m out of that death trap….. ‘Woohoo’ that was the sound of me zooming down the luge. Me and my Dad were racing down leaving mum and Jess behind. “NO!” BANG. that was the sound of me losing control and me crashing and my dad zooming past and taking the lead. It really, really hurt but I hauled my kart back on the track and hopped in. I started gaining speed……. It was neck & neck between me and Dad. Never do what I did next. I went and banged into dad and he lost control and banged the corner barrier I passed him and went across the finish line. YES I WON!
But now my dad was furious and seeked revenge but that’s a different story….

Futsal

We have been learning about Futsal with 2 people from Football South.  We learnt tricks - how to step over the ball, stop and go, and draw back.
We played a game called "Stuck in the Mud".  Next week we will play some games.  We are really looking forward to next week.
