Trade Day

For Fair Trade day I made cookies and chocolate moulds. I had a lot of success with trading my cookies and chocolates because I was very generous with giving them to trade things. I think my trades were quite popular because I got a lot of good feedback from people. For my advertising I used posters. And for my stall I got a milk carton box and tied some string onto it.
I didn't modify anything because after 10 minutes my trades were going very fast. I learnt that trading can be quite hard when you start to actually do it.

Adam's Story

There was once a little boy called Corey Glideale. He was an adventurous little boy that dreamed of sailing round the Caribbean with pirates and go flying across Europe with the biggest names in Hollywood. Although he had these dreams he knew that they wouldn't happen because he was just a regular little boy living on the outskirts of Cardiff with his Mother and his Father and his dog Patty. Patty knew whenever Corey was feeling down or happy. Patty is a black and brown Scottish Terrier. Patty is a great dog because he can do a load of tricks like dancing and walking on his hind legs. One day Patty and Corey decided to go to a place called Monstress Mountain because of its enormous cliffs and giant peaks. Corey and patty only had a caravan with them. But this wasn't any old caravan. This was a flash big caravan with 4 different rooms. That afternoon Corey and Patty started packing for their big trip. The next morning, Corey woke up to patty barking furiously. Then suddenly there was a rattle on the door and and a face in the window. But then Corey finally saw who it was, it was the postman with a parsel. Corey got out of bed and got dressed  and asked the postman to come inside because it was hailing down heavily outside. Patty had stopped barking and started liking the postman. The postman said “ your dog is well behaved and knows a lot of tricks.” “thank you for that and I’m sure that patty will agree “ said Corey and patty barked loudly in agreement. Patty barked so loudly that the postman jumped in fright.
“BIG BROCCOLI!! that was a loud bark in my ear” shouted the postman covering his ear in agony “Sorry, sorry. PATTY COME HERE!! Posty are you alright?” asked Corey worried that his little scottish terrier had done done damage to the left ear drum of the most famous postman in Cardiff or even the UK. “I’m gonna go and see the nurse now” groaned the postman in pain and off he went to see the local nurse on Colbrie lane. After Corey had given Patty telling off the door bell went ding dong dong ding. “who is it” yelled Corey “It’s me, Jonathan” replied Corey’s best friend Jonathan. “Oh ok, come in Jonathan” yelled back Corey. “Sup bro” said Jonathan “hey” said Corey. “What are you doing today?” asked Jonathan. “Not much” replied Corey. “do you want to play chess?” asked Jonathon “MOST DEFINITELY” roared Corey and dashed down down-stairs to the basement where the games cupboard was kept. Corey found the chess set and sprinted back up-stairs and through the kitchen and back where Jonathan was waiting with a chess set in his hand “you should have waited for what I was going to say” groaned Jonathan. “Oh sorry “ muted Corey. After two hours “check-mate” yelled Jonathan. “Ohhhhh nuts” groaned Corey. “great-game Corey” said Jonathan vigorously shaking Corey’s hand. “hey, guess where I’m going next week?” asked Corey “where Corey” wondered Jonathan “Monstress Mountain’s” replied Corey “Oh, apparently that place is quite spooky” said Jonathan.

Year 5 Camp

At year 5 camp we did Air Rifles and we got to shoot the air rifle. Some people have never shot before. I hope other people get to have fun at camp. by Carter
At Year 5 camp we got to do abseiling. My favourite part of abseiling was when Tim said, "Take your time going down and be careful on the slippery part." by Alyssa
We got to do Archery and at the end it started raining and we got to have a competition in the rain. We went in pairs and had to see who could shoot the targets the most. I hit the target once. by Corey

Science with Dave

Today Dave from the University visited and did some experiments. One was when he put some indicator solution in a beaker with water and it turned green because the water was neutral. Then he put dry ice in, which is made entirely from Co2, (Carbon dioxide) into the water and the liquid turned yellow and bubbled, because there was a bit of acid in the dry ice. We got to try our own experiment. We had 20cm of acid and we put magnesium in and timed how long it took to dissolve. Then we put 15cm of acid and 5cm of water in and put the magnesium in and timed it again. Then we put 10cm of acid and 10cm of water in and then we put the magnesium in and timed it. Thanks Dave for the awesome session.

SPCA Visit

On Wednesday Steph from the SPCA came to talk to us about caring for our pets.

We learnt the 5 basic needs for a pet they are food, water, shelter, love and exercise.

Steph told us stories about some of the animals she had rescued. The biggest animal she had rescued was an elephant.

She brought her 2 dogs Wilbur (11) and Tui (7).  Tui was used as a fight dog but wouldn't fight so the people locked her up to die in a shed so the SPCA came and saved her. Wilbur got chained to a washing line without shelter or exercise so the SPCA saved him too. Steph also saved a horse that was starving and was tied to a pole it was so hungry you could see its ribs and spine a couple months later after being with the SPCA it was fit and fat.

Amazing Sports Day

Yesterday Wakari School had a amazing sports day. It was really fun and there were heaps of activities. My favourite activity was called Formula One. It was when you got to go around an obstacle course with cones, hoops and ladders. You had to run around the track as many times as you could. There were also many more things like egg and spoon race, heartbeat, relays, turbo throw, boulder heave, long jump, tennis ball throw and the three legged race. It was so much  fun I hope we do another sports day.

Science!

In room13  we have been doing science experiments. All the experiments were really cool.  In our Google docs we wrote our aim, what we needed, hypothesis, result and conclusion. Some of the name of the experiments are monster tooth paste, the magnetising race, quick sand, colour changing flowers and a mini magic fire extinguisher just to name a few. We all had so much fun creating them. We also have been going to science Dave. He came from the Otago University and we have set our hands on fire with bubbles. It is exciting and sort of scary all at once.

Art Gallery

Last week room 13 went to the Art Gallery. Some nice parents took drove us to the gallery.  So once we were in the gallery John met us and showed us some art. First we looked at Robin White's painting. Then we looked at atmospheric perspective with hills and ships. John let us watch a video clip about the Yellow eyed penguins. After that we did some art about atmospheric perspective by overlapping hills with light+dark colours. After we made some indian ink trees. They looked very effective. Thank you John for letting us come and to the parents who drove us there.
If you want to see the art they are on display in room 13. We look forward to seeing
you come and look at the art. By Sujan and Michael.

An Amazing Story by Ella Cone

                       LOST
                                       By Ella Cone
Lucy gazed out the window waiting for her Auntys red flashy sports car to  show up in the silky snow.  She had already plowed the driveway twice.

Finally Lucy’s aunty arrived.  Lucy rushed to the door and opened it letting the cold wild wind blow through her messy fair hair.  She rushed outside and leapt on her aunty. Her Dad came in “Give Aunty Jo some space Lucy” he sighed. Lucy was very close to her aunty. Her aunty was an explorer so she didn’t get to see her much.

Dad said when Lucy was 12 she could go on a trip with her aunty.
It was only Lucy and her Dad because Lucy’s Mum had disappeared when Lucy was little.

Lucy and Jo gave each other nicknames Lucy’s nickname for Jo was DJ because of the time she went to a disco and Jo danced to a crazy song with Lucy’s friends, DJ’s name for Lucy was Pip because she was one of the smallest and fastest in her class and Lucy reminded DJ of pips some how.

Lucy was so happy to have DJ here because it would be her 12th birthday on Christmas Day and Christmas was in 2 days. She was so excited she didn’t think about the journey ahead.

The next two days were jam packed and soon it was Lucy’s birthday. She got a phone, a bike, a travel bag and a soccer ball.  DJ got Lucy a deck of cards and a diary.

Little did she know this birthday had a even better present to come.  Lucy’s Dad called her into the kitchen and said “Lucy you are going to Egypt with your aunty”. Lucy leaped up into the air full of happiness, although she was also trying to hide her fear. Dad paused and then said “You are going in two days.” He said it with a hint of regret.

Lucy rushed upstairs and packed her bags. After she had packed her bags she lay on her bed wondering what Egypt was like.

When Lucy’s Dad called her to the kitchen she set off like a rocket downstairs, she hadn’t eaten much since her dad said that she was going to Egypt. For dinner they had hamburgers and after that they had chocolate eclairs, 1 day down 1 to go. The next day flew by, now Lucy was at the airport.
At the airport gift shop Lucy bought a bouncy ball and a camera. Her dad said “Lucy wait I have 1 more present for you” and he handed her a ipad “Thanks” Lucy said quietly. Lucy grabbed her bags and hugged her dad. She headed towards the plane. She heard the loud jet engines, she heard the big engine groaning as little turbines started squeaking.  Lucy ran up onto the plane and sat herself next to a boy wearing blue headphones. DJ ended up sitting in a seat 2 rows back from Lucy. The plane shot into the air like a bullet then slowed down once they reached the clouds.
After a five hour flight the plane landed.

Lucy stared out the window and saw giant sand dunes. She shielded her eyes from the bright golden sun.
Lucy stepped out of the plane letting the hot sand leak onto her jandals.

Their guide greeted them with a warm native “TALOMBA”. His name was Rakfan Astrin and he was from Mongolia. He said “HELLO my name is Rakfan Astrin and this is my moustache. Come here and see Pistachio”. Rakfan led us towards an ostrich “I invented ostrich racing and I HATE peacocks” he said proudly but towards the the end he whimpered. Lucy said “okay” trying to think of something nice to say about this strange achievement.

The boy on the plane was following Rakfan. “This is my son Bruce” Rakfan said pointing to the boy. Bruce had brown hair and he was wearing a basketball singlet, blue board shorts and green jandals. Lucy said “Hi Bruce”. Suddenly a small boy appeared from behind Bruce, he was holding a packet of crayons. “The green ones taste like slugs” he said biting into a purple crayon. “My name is James,” he said as he spat out some paper off the crayon.

Lucy picked up her bags and headed towards the airport to cash in some money. She came out a few minutes later to find a snake wriggling on the sand. She stopped in her tracks. She tried calling for help but nothing came out. The snake lurked closer it smelt fear. A few seconds later it struck, biting into Lucy’s arm. She wobbled and then fainted. A few moments later DJ found Lucy lying on the ground and she called an ambulance. It came rumbling along a dirt track.

Lucy woke up several hours later in a hospital bed with nurses and doctors leaning over her. She rubbed her hand over her numb arm and felt a rough cast. “You are very lucky to be alive,” said a small nurse. Lucy rubbed her eyes and made out the name written on the lady’s name tag, it read Becky. Lucy looked around she saw her arm had had several injections, the small white plasters stuck there like glue. Her arm was bent across her chest and she couldn’t move it. Lucy’s tummy rumbled, a nurse walked away and came back with a bowl full of ice cream and jelly and a glass of lemonade. Lucy ate everything. She was told to try and stand but her legs wobbled and she collapsed. Her head smashed into the bed, she got knocked unconscious and a table got knocked down on top of her leg. She woke up minutes later but with a bandage around her head and a bandage around her ankle and foot. This time Lucy had crutches. Once again she stood up with crutches by her side and walked out the door. The doctor gave DJ medicine and herbal cream stuff and they walked very slowly to the hotel. Once they got there they got the key to their room then they went up the oak stairs and walked into their room. Lucy lay on her bed and fell asleep.

She woke up at 6:15 in the morning to a rustling sound coming from out of the small window. She picked up crutches and moved slowly and quietly towards the window. She opened it and saw a person wearing a black cloak lurking in the bushes, they ran as soon as they saw Lucy. Lucy couldn’t get back to sleep after seeing that person in the bush who were they why were they hiding and what did they want? Eventually Lucy drifted off. One hour later DJ woke Lucy up and they watched the sun rise, a wonderful mix of peach deep red and orange.

The day went on normally. They went on a tour around the pyramids and the big sand dunes.  They got home and had chicken curry for lunch. They went into a small shop where Lucy brought a recorder, a pocket knife and a bracelet. Then they went back to the hospital and got Lucy’s leg cast removed and they swapped the plaster one on her arm for a flexible white scratchy one  Lucy walked out with a different cream to treat her bite with. They walked home and ate some marshmallows.  Lucy took out her ipad and played on it then she skyped her Dad. She told him all about her getting bitten and going to the shops but she didn’t tell him about the person in the bush.

Lucy went to bed at 9:30 she fell asleep and when the clock struck twelve the person in the black cloak broke in. They only took one thing ...Lucy.

Lucy woke up in a small hut on the edge of a jungle. When she looked around she saw test tubes and needles filled with strange coloured liquids. She looked at her arms they had been taped to metal boards and her body was strapped across a metal board as well. Then Becky walked in, she was holding some strange herbs.
When DJ woke up she walked over to Lucy’s bed to find it empty. She stared in horror, she called for Lucy there was no reply. DJ called the police and the search began.

Becky strolled over to Lucy and unstrapped her. Lucy stood up and said “Why am I here. What do you want with me”.
Becky chuckled and said “You see once you got bitten by that snake your power developed” .
“ Power?” Lucy said puzzled.
“You see your mother worked as a scientist and she developed a formula to create super powers. I was also a scientist trying to make a similar formula. Once your mother found out I was after it she wrote down the recipe and hid it. Then she drunk the formula. You were only a baby then and before she drank it all she gave some to you since you were an only child and she loved you. So you have a power nobody knows what it is but I am going to find out” Becky said. Then Becky said “ Lucy I need to get some more ingredients wait here” . Lucy did want to find out what her superpower was but she didn’t want to be tested either.

Once Becky was deep into the jungle Lucy grabbed a rucksack and picked up  some rope,a notebook and pencil,a pocket knife,a bow and some arrows,a torch, 6 mangos and 3 coconuts. Lucy walked out the door and saw that the jungle was on a island. She could see a smaller island in the distance, then Lucy spotted a boat. Lucy jogged over to the boat then Becky came out of the bush and saw Lucy trying to escape. Lucy ran and ran, she was much faster than Becky.  Lucy leaped onto the boat and rowed like mad. She rowed and rowed until she made it to the island and she collapsed. She felt something hard underneath her back.  She pushed away the sand and found a stone and engraved in it was a map. It was signed. Signed by Rachel Collins, Lucy’s Mum. Lucy picked it up and studied it. It was mostly blurred. Lucy looked up at the sky, it was getting dark. Lucy put the map in her rucksack and walked towards a pile of old palm trees. Lucy lay down and fell asleep to the sound of the wind.
She woke up to the sound of chirping birds then she remembered she had been kidnapped and she rowed away on a boat. She stood up and went to find some breakfast.  She wandered around the island till she found a small oasis, she bent down and slurped up the water, thank goodness it wasn’t saltwater. She gulped down some more and then she saw a old broken pirate ship. She walked over to it . Lucy crawled through a crack in the ship and pulled out a torch. Lucy pointed the torch at the ground and saw a skull and bones scattered around. There was a gold cutlass lying on the floor, Lucy picked it up and swung it around. Lucy walked further into the ship she went on the hammocks and when she went in the captain’s cabin she found a gold medal. When Lucy got to the top deck she found a treasure chest in the birdsnest. Lucy filled her rucksack with doubloons and emeralds, pearls and diamonds. Lucy jumped off the ship and walked back to the pile of palm trees. She ate a mango and stared at the sky. Lucy spent the rest of the day turning her pile of trees into a tree hut. By nightfall she had a house. She crawled in and lay on her hammock and fell asleep.

When Lucy woke up she picked up the map and stared at it wondering what it would lead to. She saw a clue and read it

The Invisible Map Seen at right time of Day
If you remember where you found this Map
you will find a hidden message to lead you to
a hidden Passage

Lucy thought what time of day. She counted the lines 4 lines four o’clock. Lucy looked at her watch 3:50 that gave her enough time to find where she found the map.  After searching the beach she found her boat and the spot where she found the map. She stood in the sand and checked her watch 3:59 soon she thought. She looked at the sky and then in the clouds a message formed. Lucy was in the middle of reading it when an arrow formed the message was

Turn Left turn right which ever path you like
I will follow you day and night
If you follow me
But only you
I will lead you to another clue
Lucy thought what would follow her throughout her entire life then it hit her, her shadow had been following her throughout her life now how would she follow her shadow. Then she remembered the arrow. She looked where the arrow was pointing. Ok Lucy thought I will pack my things and set off to find the next clue. Lucy headed west until she came to the edge of the island then looked at her shadow. It was going diagonally but it was still going into the ocean. That’s when Lucy noticed a life jacket and scuba diving outfit half buried in the sand, she put it on and waded into the water. Soon the water was over her head so she put the snorkel in her mouth and started swimming across the Atlantic ocean. Once night fell Lucy’s arms were aching so she stopped at a small rock and slowly let her body climb up. Using the last of her energy Lucy lay down and sprawled herself across the slimy rock. She made a pile of seaweed and used it as a pillow. She dozed off to the sound of the gentle waves splashing against the rocks.

Lucy woke up to the sound of her rumbling stomach but was determined and set off once more. Halfway through the rough day Lucy saw an island, she stopped on it in case there was any food. Lucy found a mango tree and started munching on the sweet tangy fruit. Then Lucy realised her shadow wasn’t leading her anywhere so she must be close to the next clue. She climbed up a nearby tree to get a good view of the island. She put her foot on a low branch suddenly it slipped under her foot. It moved down like a lever  then an opening was created in the sand. There was a small cobblestone staircase and old torches lined the walls. Lucy walked down slowly checking for booby traps every step until she came to a small room. There was a loose brick that Lucy took it out and there she found a bright room on the other side of the wall. She removed the other bricks and in that room she found a small jewelry box on a old desk. She opened it and inside was a pipe, engraved in the pipe was another clue

Who ever has found this clue
it’s obviously worth knowing who
has created this quest
to complete this courageous challenge
you must have the code the
code that my family know as an ode
if you are related to me
if you must know
my name lets out a clue but still it is
Rachel West Collins

Lucy felt warm inside, she felt like she was uncovering family secrets. She knew the ode because her dad would sing it to her every night. It was

Every night the bird sings
Humming a tune to lead to diamonds and rings
The way to get there is to put in your part
Its the fraction of the copper heart
The  directions are remember this right
Turn west from the old crows nest
and from there you shall discover the rest.

Lucy pulled off the necklace that she was wearing, the copper resembled a heart. Her Dad had one and so did she. Now she understood the rhyme, it led to the Collins family treasure.

Lucy went back onto the beach and set off to find a crows nest. She wandered around the island until she saw a crashed ship that had a crows nest. Now Lucy had to go west. She stood up and saw a path of old stepping stones. They were rising out of the water and they were leading in the perfect direction. Lucy tested it. She stretched out one muddy leg and stepped on a slippery rock it wobbled but was secure. She continued along the long rickety path her arms stretched out like a tightrope walker. She walked through the misty night and through the rainy day but by the end of the path Lucy was absolutely pooped. She lay down on the rocky shore the path ended at and fell asleep. She woke up hours later to the gentle humming of a motor boat. She sat up and saw a small boy he was only about 4 and was sobbing quietly. Lucy crawled over to the small boy and said “Hi what’s your name I am Lucy”. She bent down and smiled at the boy. “Myles” he whimpered wiping tears from his face. Lucy spent the next couple of minutes earning the boy’s trust until he crawled onto Lucy’s lap.The sun went down and the two fell asleep. Lucy woke up to the sound of Myles sobbing. Lucy looked up and into the boy’s deep brown eyes, he had blonde hair that flowed wildly in all directions “Why are you out here Myles?” Lucy asked thinking about all the possible answers.
“My Dad went fishing with me and got pulled into the ocean by a big green fishy” Myles stammered. Lucy suddenly wished she didn't ask that question she shifted Myles off her leg “Come on” Lucy said enthusiastically. Myles stared at  Lucy confused. “Go where?” questioned Myles.
Lucy thought how could she persuade a little boy to go on a treacherous journey then said “on a treasure hunt”.
“A treasure hunt! YAY” Myles shouted as he jumped up and skipped around in a circle.  Lucy stood up and stopped Myles from getting dizzy “We need some gear” Lucy explained.
“Ok” said Myles “follow me”. Myles waddled over to a small cave “I found this place” Myles said proudly. Lucy ducked her head and walked in. There were torches, walkie talkies, pocket knives and lots of other crates. Lucy prised open a crate and found old clothes “better than the ones I’m wearing” Lucy said to herself and pulled off the wet ones she was wearing. While Lucy was putting on a old navy blue sweatshirt she noticed all her scars one from the bottom of her neck down to her belly button. Lucy noticed all the dried blood and mud over her body and leaves in her hair. She picked up a small first aid kit and treated her many wounds. She walked out with an old bag slung over her shoulder and went over to Myles who was staring out to sea. Lucy grabbed his hand gently and handed him a coconut, a torch and a small bag. Myles took them and put them in his bag. The sun was going down. Myles and Lucy walked into the cave and rolled up into balls and fell asleep.

When they woke up the sun was just rising into the sky. Myles’s tummy rumbled. Lucy got up and a fishing rod caught her eye. Lucy walked over to it and picked it up. Myles stared. Lucy walked out of the cave and sat down on the edge of a rock. She lowered the hook into the water and waited with her hand on the reel until it started tugging. Lucy pulled and pulled. It must be a shark thought Lucy but once it came to land Lucy realised it was a man. She stared and walked back slowly. He started coughing and spluttering. Lucy didn’t know whether she should go further away or go closer towards him. After a few seconds of thought Lucy walked towards the man. She sat him up and pushed him up against the rock. Then he coughed out a fish bone. Myles walked out of the cave and ran towards the man screaming “DAD DAD the fishy didn’t eat you”
Myles leaped onto the Man and gave him a hug, tears were running down Myles muddy face. Eventually they both stood up “You can call me Roy” said the man. Myles said “This is Lucy, she looked after me”
“Thanks for looking after Myles Lucy” said Roy. He had a deep Australian accent. Lucy threw Roy a coconut, Roy caught it and split it open with a pocket knife he pulled out of his belt. That day was the first day Lucy relaxed in a while. Roy and Myles caught fish and made drinks out of the nearby fruits. Lucy finally felt like she was on holiday, she had a decent meal and wasn’t dehydrated. Lucy told Roy about the treasure and Becky. Roy told Lucy about how he stopped a group of evil treasure hunters. He told the story by a open fire. The next day the trio had planned to set off. Lucy had memorised the clue off by heart, she sung herself to sleep with it but she wondered where would she discover the rest. The cave Lucy thought. She ran into the cave there was a small hole that light shined through. Lucy never paid much attention to it but now she noticed it was shining directly at the wall. She ran to the light and rubbed off a layer of dirt that uncovered an engraving. It simply read

Go to the other side of
The island from the cave
and there is the thing I
Have sent you to find .

Lucy told Roy and Myles and they walked to the other side of the island. They reached a mossy wall. Roy pushed on it and a passage formed. Lucy walked in and turned on a torch that she brought with her in the old bag.
She walked into a small room and found a stream and trees growing up across the mossy roof. Swinging from the tree was a lady with red hair. Lucy had seen her in photos and she knew it was her Mum. “Lucy is that you?” the lady asked. Her voice was soft and reminded Lucy of honey. “Mum it’s me” Lucy replied. The lady swung down from the tree and rushed towards Lucy “You found me” she sobbed. Lucy grabbed her mother, tears streaming down her face. Roy and Myles walked into the room “Lucy who is this?” Roy asked. “My mum” Lucy said wiping her eyes.
Myles rushed over towards Lucy and leaped onto her. Lucy felt warm inside and she hugged Myles. Suddenly the floor started shaking. Lucy grabbed Myles and together everyone rushed out. Once they were all out they realised a statue was rising out of the room. It was a statue of Poseidon god of the sea. In his trident was a large pearl, it was rolling down Poseidon’s shoulder. The ground shook madly as the pearl reached the earth. Lucy noticed a copper circle on the pearl cut out of it was a heart shape. Lucy pulled off her necklace and her mother did the same thing. They placed the two pieces together and the pearl split open. Inside was a wooden carving of a girl who looked just like Lucy, a small jewellery box full of diamonds, 6 small boxes with medals in them and 6 copper hearts. Lucy put everything in her bag. Everyone spent the next couple of minutes staring at the statue. Myles broke the silence by saying “Lucy what do we do now?” Lucy didn’t have to think about this long, she simply said “Go home”.  Roy then asked “So how do we get home?” Lucy’s Mum said “ I know the way back to Egypt”. “Great” Lucy said “is it long?”.
“Sort of but considering the journey you made to get here it will be simple”.

The next day they set off in a row boat they had repaired. Roy had a compass and Lucy’s mum knew the directions. Lucy’s mum had kept herself entertained in the mossy room all that time by playing cards. Lucy spent the first part of the trip playing cards with Myles. They travelled days and nights entertaining each other with stories. They stopped on islands along the way stocking up on food each time. When Lucy wasn’t sleeping, eating, telling stories or playing cards she was carving a dragon creature out of a small log.

Eventually the small boat reached the shore of Egypt  and there in front of them was the small city the adventure had started at. Lucy waddled onto the shore and walked to the top of a small slope. There she saw Rakfan leaning against the airport. She didn’t know how long she had been gone, whether or not DJ was here. Lucy walked back to the boat and took everybody else to see the small city.

Lucy walked towards Rakfan. Rakfan stared at Lucy squinting in the sun “Do I know you?” he asked peculiarly. “It’s me, Lucy. You were my tour guide” Lucy said.
“Hmm I do remember somebody named Lucy got kidnapped a while ago. Ahh yes I remember”
“ Is my aunty still here?”
“No she left a few weeks ago but she told me to give you this” Rakfan said
as he handed Lucy her phone. Lucy turned on her black phone. She dialled her aunty’s phone number and waited. She crossed her fingers as it rang. A few moments later she heard her aunty’s voice “Hello Rakfan not another prank call” she said irritated. “DJ it’s me Lucy” Lucy said.
“LUCY” DJ screamed “you’re alive”.
Lucy chuckled “ it’s a long story”.
DJ said “ I’ll get your Dad he will be so happy”. Lucy heard a muffled sound as DJ passed the phone “Hello” Lucy’s dad said. “Hi Dad it’s Lucy. Yes I am alive and it’s a long story. I found Mum” Lucy said.
Dad replied “You found Mum. How? Can I speak to her?”. Lucy handed her Mum the phone. There was a lot of laughing and tears but finally the phone got back into Lucy’s pocket.

A few days later Dad and DJ came. They picked up Myles and Roy as well. Once they got back home Lucy asked her Dad if Myles and Roy could stay with them. The answer was yes. Myles moved into Lucy’s room and Roy took the old spare room.  Lucy found out she came back halfway through the half term break so she had time to settle back into her normal life. Lucy told her whole family her story. They had a family reunion for Lucy and her Mum. Lucy found out she had the power to control time and she had super speed.

Misty Grey

Misty Grey
Misty grey is the winter night sky
Misty grey is a cold winter's day
Misty grey is the colour of the cloudy smoke
Misty grey is the colour of the dying trees
Misty grey is the colour of the cold windy wet day

Monster Toothpaste

Today we did an experiment called Monster Toothpaste. The aim was to observe what happened when we added yeast to hydrogen peroxide, food colouring and dish liquid. We mixed the chemicals
together and observed. The mixture frothed up right out of the bottle and oozed out like a tube of toothpaste. But definitely do not use this to wash your teeth!

Stars on Stage

Last week we had Stars on Stage. All of the dances that we did were about home and what home means to all of us.  The songs we performed to  were Green Green Grass of Home, Home, Homeward Bound, Sweet Home Alabama  and Come on Home. At the end we did a group dance called I Am Dunedin. It was also fun watching the other schools dance.  This is a short video of part of our item. Mrs Brown kindly filled in!
