Futsal Champions

Futsal Champions

Yesterday on the 29th of November we played Futsal in the division 1 final. We played against Fairfield wave. They were the only team we hadn’t beaten. Last week we drew against them 2-2 but this week we beat them 6-2 for the trophy.

They played really well but they didn’t play as a team. They had a major go-to man but we played as one. Cam’s brother Jack, his mum, Andrea and Carter's brother, Fletcher were our coaches. They helped us a lot.
By Corey.

I was keeper for the whole game and they kept passing around us to their go-to man who has a strong shot but somehow I managed to only let him score once. I feel that the main reason we won was because our passing and the fact we played as a unit. I’m really glad we pulled off a victory. By Adam.

On Tuesday we played futsal in the final vs Fairfield Wave. Our coaches for the game were my brother Jack and Carter’s brother Fletcher and of course my super coach
Mum, Andrea. They really helped us in the all the games especially the hard games that we played.

More Science!

Yesterday we did a science experiment with chalk, water and felt pen. The aim was to observe what will happen if we put a piece of chalk and place it in water. The method was to use a felt pen to make a coloured line around a piece of chalk. Then place the piece of chalk in a glass with 0.5cm of water in it. Observe what happens every 5 minutes. Repeat using a different colour. In the end the felt pen line was all the way at the top of the piece of chalk. For the brown felt line on the piece of chalk it had a lot of different colours in the end of the science experiment. I really enjoyed doing this science experiment yesterday.

Year 5 Camp

Year 5 Camp
At Waiora
When we first got there we unpacked and settled into our bunkrooms. Some boys had a chalet with four people in one bunk room  and 1 or 2 parents in each chalet. One of the groups when we first got there got to abseil. But first they had to practise on smaller ropes then we did the big one it was really scary at the first part but overall it was really fun. On Thursday we had free time for a while so we got the cricket set out and  started doing some pitches with the bull and bat then Brent saw us playing out of the kitchen window so he came out and told us some rules of cricket then a heap of kids started to play then we ended up with pitchers, batters and fielders. Shelby stayed in for ages with batting. Malak and Ousama should be in the Black Caps when they’re and older they are that good at batting.

Chalk Chromography

On the 31st of October room 13 got a glass with 0.5ml of water, and then we got a chalk and a pen then we made a line with the pen and put it in the water for five minutes. After five minutes all the colours were bleeding. Then we went for another five minutes and when the another five minutes the colours went up to the top.  We watched it for another 10 minutes. During the ten minutes the colours reached the top of the chalk. After the 10 minutes we had another look and the line from the top was starting to bleed down the chalk. By Connor

Science in Room 13

In Room 13 we have been doing science. Our first experiment was fermentation ( sugar, water and yeast). It turned out frothy and smelly with a brown colour. How we did it is get lukewarm water and mix yeast and white sugar. For the fermentation we will be changing the  type of sugar (e.g: honey, caster sugar, raw sugar, golden syrup and see if fermentation still happens. We might be make a ginger beer bug to make homemade ginger beer.

Susie Bates- Olympic Ambassador

Today we were so fortunate to meet Susie Bates.  She is a famous NZ Cricketer for the White Ferns (she is the captain).  She has also played basketball for NZ as well.
She said that the most important things were; friendship, respect, and excellence when playing sports. She also said to never give up on your dreams, and to try new sports so you can see
what sport you like the best, or you are the best at.
Charlie, Zach, Iziah and Mariah had a game of Knock Out against her.
We really enjoyed her company and learnt lots from her.
